Stay at Home Cellar
Hello from Napa Valley!
Over the past days and weeks, our lives have changed in many ways. And for you and all our friends and customers, we hope that your families and friends are safe and healthy. I've never seen anything like this in my lifetime, and we are all making the health of our loved ones a priority. During this time of social distancing, it’s important that we find ways to creatively bring community together. So, I’ve developed the Stay at Home Cellar – a select group of fine wines that you can enjoy with your families in the comfort of your homes. We’ve concentrated on affordability so that you can enjoy quality wines from Napa and Sonoma without undue strain on your pocketbook.
Stay safe and drink well,
Rob Mondavi, Jr.
Aromas of cocoa nibs, turmeric, suede andbroken mixed berries perfume the wine, while notes of fresh, red currant and blackberry nuances combine for a bright acidity that is followed by a rounded texture and nicelystructured yet plush tannins. The 2016 Animo Cabernet Sauvignon is a generous wine, with complex and elegant layers of flavor.
The near-perfect 2016 growing season started early, saw ideal weather conditions throughout, and wrapped up right as the valley's first significant fall rainstorm arrived on October 14. Thanks to a steadily mild July and August and then a series of warm days at the end of the growing season, vineyards were able to progress to perfect ripeness, resulting in a fifth consecutive vintage of stellar quality Napa Valley wines.
ATLAS PEAK VINEYARD
Our vineyard, located high atop Atlas Peak between 1,270 and 1,350 feet, sits on 15 acres of stony, volcanic soil at the edge of a steep canyon which overlooks Foss Valley. It is planted with Clone 4 variety on 110R rootstock to yield structured fruit with ample tannins and acid to balance the concentrated dark fruit flavors.

With aromas of freshly cut nectarine, Kaffir lime leaves, and lemongrass, the palate offers firm stone fruits of white peach and apricot alongside crisp mango. Subtle yet prevalent elements of French oak add a viscosity with hints of hazelnut to balance the fresh, razor-edge acidity.
Rob and his sister Dina created this amazing blend but, as he says, completely failed in the label design. They've been enjoying this amazing wine as their personal stash. Never releasing the wine as the label is well, ugly! Old Vine Cabernet, Petite Verdot and Syrah offer aromatics that jump from the glass. Great texture and body from Petite Verdot are softened by the round and balanced Syrah with a long finish. This wine with eight years of age is stunning and ready to drink. Under 100 cases available. ROB'S CELLAR RELEASE
The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for Animo are grown in its namesake vineyard, a high-elevation site in the Atlas Peak district of Napa Valley. Deep and luscious, Animo is a modern, fruit-driven Cabernet Sauvignon which retains a genuine, built-to-last mountain character. The structured fruit with ample tannins and acid balance the concentrated dark fruit flavors of plum, currants and ripened black cherry.

The grapes for our Emblem 2012 Oso Vineyard Petite Sirah were harvested from our family’s Oso Vineyard. Planted on slopes rising up from Swartz Creek, it is nestled between Sugarloaf and Howell Mountains in Napa Valley, where the historic Oat Hill Mine Road begins its ascent over the mountain toward Calistoga. The 2012 Emblem Petite Sirah is barrel aged for 20 months. Blueberry and huckleberry aspects bring the fruit forward, without taking over the rich tannins and lean oak characteristics.

The 2018 growing season, for many, began in late February and was marked by showers in March and April, pushing the timing of bloom back to what is considered by some winemakers a more normal time. The rains also provided adequate moisture for good canopy growth well into the growing season and the mild Spring allowed for extended flowering which eventually led to uniform grape clusters.
